If you remember back to October 2015 you’ll remember that TransLink proposed some changes to New Westminster’s community shuttle routes. I was largely in favour of the changes, and a couple of people suggested modifications to the C9 route so that the current C3 stop on Jameison Court wouldn’t be lost.
Good news! TransLink released the Transit Network Consultation report today, and the New Westminster community shuttle routes will be changed to match those modifications, and the C9 route will be re-routed to include the Jameison Court stop!
This is great news. Transit service to Victoria Hill will hopefully be more consistent and reliable. Transit service linking Royal Square Mall and Royal City Centre / Uptown is restored. Jameison Court’s stop isn’t removed, although it looks like the C9’s frequency of service isn’t being increased from it’s currently hourly service, so this is probably a net loss of service to that stop.
All told this looks like a pretty decent win for transit service in New Westminster.
YOUR SERVICE CHANGE WILL GREATLY AFFECT THE BUS RIDERS IN THE JAMIESON COURT AREA. ONE HOUR SERVICE IS NOT ADEQUATE PARTICULARLY AT NIGHT. i THINK THAT C3 COULD HAVE STARTED THERE AND WENT UP TO VICTORIA HILL AND THEN DOWN TO COLUMBIA STN. AND NEW WESTMINSTER STN. i RELY ON THIS SERVICE TO GET AROUND. TO WAIT ONE HOUR IN THE FREEZING COLD OR WHEN ONE IS TIRED OR NEEDS TO SOMEWHERE AT A CERTAIN TIME ISN’T ACCEPTABLE. You have done a disservice to our neighbourhood. So many people work at Royal City Manor and need to get there for work. I am very disappointed.
These changes are not adequate to service this area and will greatly affect my ridership as well as others. C3 could have started from Jamieson Court and then went up to Victoria HILL. YOUR DECISION wILL GREATLY AFFECT THOSE WHO WORK AT ROYAL CITY MANOR AND THE RESIDENTS OF FRASERVIEW. Poor decision on your part.
Did you respond to TransLink’s survey when they were asking for input on the proposed route changes?
The C3 currently starts at Jamieson Court and goes through Victoria Hill to downtown New Westminster, so you’re proposing they don’t change it at all. The reason why they are changing this route is so that the route no longer travels on McBride, which is always congested in the afternoon rush hour, leading to a complete degradation in service. It always passes people up on the second and third stops, leaving full from New Westminster SkyTrain Station. It always leaves late, which has a knock-on effect on every other stop on the route, including the return trip.
Your concerns are valid though, and I hope you made them to TransLink when they were asking for input.
